Electronics Inspection China: FBA Compliance Checklist for USB, Bluetooth, and Battery Products | $169
Electronics are the highest-return category on Amazon.
Return rates for electronics hit 15-25% depending on the subcategory. Compare that to 5-8% for home goods. And the kicker? Most returns aren't from defective electronics — they're from compliance and packaging issues that a pre-shipment inspection would have caught.
If you're importing USB cables, Bluetooth speakers, phone accessories, or battery-powered devices from China, here's exactly what needs to be checked before your container ships.
The 10-point electronics inspection checklist
1. Electrical safety and certification marks
Every electronic product sold in the US needs FCC compliance. For EU markets, it's CE. For battery products, add UN 38.3 for lithium battery transport safety. Our inspectors verify:
- FCC, CE, or UL marks are printed correctly on the product and packaging
- Certification numbers match real, current registrations
- Battery compartments are labeled correctly for transport
2. USB and charging port functionality
This is the #1 failure point for electronics from China. Inspectors test:
- USB-A and USB-C ports — do they charge consistently across 5 test units?
- Voltage output stays within spec (±5%)
- Cable connections are tight, no loose fit
- Short circuit protection works — disconnect and reconnect behavior
3. Bluetooth connectivity and range
For Bluetooth products, we test:
- Pairing success rate across 3 different phone models
- Connection range — minimum 10 meters unobstructed
- Audio latency (for speakers/headphones)
- Multi-device switching (for earbuds)
- Auto-reconnect when phone re-enters range
4. Display and UI functionality
- Screen brightness, color accuracy, dead pixels
- Touch response — tap, swipe, multi-touch across the full surface
- Button tactile feedback — every button press feels consistent
- Indicator lights — correct color, brightness, and sequence
5. Battery safety
- Battery compartment fits — no loose batteries rattling inside
- Charging circuit protection — overcharge cut-off at correct voltage
- Battery type matches the listing (replaceable vs. built-in)
- For lithium-ion: UN 38.3 certification is mandatory for air freight
6. Water and dust resistance (where claimed)
If your listing says "IPX5 water resistant," the product better survive a 3-minute low-pressure water spray. Inspectors verify IP ratings with actual tests, not just logo checks.
7. Cable and connector durability
- Bend test at connector junction — 90-degree flex, 50 cycles
- Pull test on cable — minimum 5kg force before disconnection
- Connector insertion/removal — 100 cycles without loosening
8. Packaging and labeling
- FCC/CE marks on the packaging where required
- Battery handling instructions and warnings
- Country of origin marking (must be on product, not just carton)
- FNSKU/FBA labels — correct size, placement, scannable
- Hazmat declarations for lithium battery products (Class 9 label on carton)
9. Drop test
Consumer electronics need robust packaging. Standard drop test: 1 meter onto concrete, 3 edges and 1 corner. If the product survives without cosmetic or functional damage, it passes.
10. Quantity and accessory check
- Every unit: do the accessories match the packing list? (cable, manual, adapter)
- Bilingual manuals where required (English + Spanish for US market)
- QR codes and setup links — do they work?
Amazon's 2026 electronics enforcement update
Amazon rolled out stricter electronics compliance checks in April 2026:
- All Bluetooth products now require FCC ID verification at inbound — no verified ID = no receive
- Lithium battery shipments must include UN 38.3 test summary on request
- Electronics with >10% return rate face automatic ASIN review within 30 days
A pre-shipment inspection is your cheapest insurance policy against these triggers. One batch of 500 USB-C cables with loose connectors? That return rate spike flags your whole listing.
AQL for electronics imports
- Critical defects (safety, electrical hazard, fire risk): Accept 0%
- Major defects (charging failure, Bluetooth not pairing, screen defect): 2.5% AQL
- Minor defects (cosmetic scratches, slight color mismatch): 4.0% AQL
Sample size: AQL Level II, normal. For high-value electronics, many importers upgrade to Level S-3 with a larger sample for functional testing.
